Civil War Brown Water Navies

The Civil War in NE North Carolina

I have seen the following photo identified as being the USS Commodore Perry, USS Commodore Barney, and the USS Putnam. The USAMHI has it correctly identified as the USS Shawsheen in their Mass-Mollus Collection. It doesn't have enough guns to be the Putnam and it definitely isn't a double-ended NY ferryboat like the Perry or Barney.

The Giles Artillery, aka French's Battery (formerly McComas' Battery), participated in the capture of the USS Shawsheen. They were in Elizabeth City at the same time as the Shawsheen during the battle of Elizabeth City. As McComas' Battery, they also participated in the battle of South Mills.
